Forging Partnerships for Peace

A Luzon-Visayas Indigenous Peoples Conference

The International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples will take place on August 9^th, bringing the most marginalized sector of society into the fore of our consciousness. To celebrate this day, close to 200 indigenous Filipinos from Luzon and the Visayas and IP advocates, both international and local, will gather together on August 7 - 9 at the Sacred Heart Novitiate Retreat House, Novaliches, Quezon City for the Forging Partnerships for Peace Conference.

Ten (10) civil society and IP support organizations [Philippine Association for Intercultural Development (PAFID), Cordillera People’s Forum (CPF), Balay Rehabilitation Center, GZO Peace Institute, Anthropology Watch (AnthroWatch), Inter-Peoples Exchange (Ipex), Koalisyon ng Katutubong Samahan ng Pilipinas (KASAPI), Cartwheel Foundation, Non-Timber Forest Products-Exchange Programme (NTFP-EP), and the Assisi Development Foundation (ADF) ] have teamed up to organize this activity mainly to assess the decade-implementation of the Philippines’ Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA) through five major issues surrounding the tribal communities: Kapayapaan (Peace and Conflict Management, Social Justice), Karapatan sa Lupa (Land Rights), Kalikasan (Environment, Resource Use & Management, Livelihood), Karunungan (Knowledge and Education), Kultura at Kasarinlan (Cultural Integrity & Self-Governance). The gathering will also draft an IP peace agenda to be presented to the Philippine government.

1. Hinihikayat ang lahat na dumating sa Metro Manila ng umaga ng Agosto 7 (Tues), at huwag bago ang araw na ito dahil wala pa pong maibibigay ang Organizers ng matutuluyan. Ang umaga ng Agosto 7 ay para sa Exhibit set-up.

2. Ipagbigay alam sa Organizers ang takdang oras ng inyong pagdating at kung saang terminal (air, bus, sea) kayo sa Metro Manila dadating. May mga pick-up points ang organizers at may mga nakatakdang taong susundo sa inyo. Halimbawa, lahat ng dadating sa Cubao bus station ng Agosto 7, 1am-5am ay susunduin ng Balay Rehabilitation (example only), etc etc. Lahat ng panibago at lumang instructions and guidelines ay maaaring mabasa sa http://ipconference.blogspot.com. Subukang bumisita sa website na iyon.

3. Paano pumunta ng Sacred Heart. Ang mga hindi masusundo ay kailangan dumiretso sa venue ng conference sa Sacred Heart Novitiate Retreat House, Km 23, Quirino Highway, Novaliches, Quezon City. Ang mga manggagaling ng airport ay sumakay sa alinmang sumusunod na bus: Tungko, Palmera, o Sapang Palay. Ito rin ang sasakyan ng mga nasa Bus stations sa EDSA. Bababa ka sa harap mismo ng gate ng Sacred Heart. Puwede ring sumakay ng SM Fairview Bus sa kahabaan ng EDSA. Ang manggagaling naman ng Pier (seaport) ay sumakay ng jeep to Quiapo at doon makakahanap ng SM Fairview Bus or FX or Jeep. Pagdating sa SM Fairview, sumakay ng Jeep na Tungko at Palmera. Huwag mag taxi kasi hindi ito mare-reimburse.

4. Lahat ng imbitadong IP ay walang babayaran. Sagot na ng Assisi Development Foundation ang inyong pamasahe, at board and lodging (mula lunch ng Agosto 7 hanggang dinner ng Agosto 9). Ang main meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) lang ang mare-reimburse na pagkain sa biyahe, kung meron man. Maximum ng Php50/meal. Ang snacks ay hindi mare-reimburse. Ang pamasahe mula sa community hanggang sa Sacred Heart Novitiate ay mare-reimburse. Hinihikayat na budget fares ang kunin ng mga imbitado sa air, bus o boat fare. Lahat ng resibo ay kailangan ibigay sa Finance Team para sa reimbursement. Hanapin si Bb. Ivi Codia o Ruth Salvaña para dito.

5. Magdala ng Exhibit materials para sa inyong Grupo o tribo. Puwede ring magdala ng mga produkto upang ibenta.

6. Magdala ng kasuotang katutubo at maghanda ng cultural presentation para sa Solidarity Night o sa Conference breaks.

7. Tawagan, i-text, i-fax or i-email ang organizers bago ang Agosto 1 kung sino ang dadalo sa conference.

8. Sagutan ang Database Information Sheet. Kung hindi naman ay maghanda na sagutan ang mga impormasyong kailangan kapag dumating sa conference. Hanapin ang database table para dito.
